Why Yep?

My domain name…ok let’s talk about it! The word “goals” is easy to understand. We all have them. They all differ. And they may change throughout our lives as we grow, learn, and yes, sometimes…mess up. Its true. We have all been there and that’s ok!  In fact, it’s great!  Simply put, if we didn’t mess up, we wouldn’t be making much room to grow!  But why “Yep?’

I know that “yep” is used very commonly, and as English slang…or…something… but let me explain what it is to me. Yep is that feeling you get when all is right in your world. When all the stars are (figuratively) in line. It’s that feeling you get of complete satisfaction!  And perhaps, best of all, certainty!  …Certainty. Ah yes.  What a fantastic feeling that is!  To know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you are on the right path!  And you know, because everything in you is saying (with profound confidence), “Yep!  This is the stuff.  This is what I’ve been after!” That, my friends, is how I describe the “yep” feeling. Now, how and where are we going to find yours?  Well, hopefully, right here!  And very soon!

Life is, after all, but a journey. It can be everything we create it to be.  Sometimes, when you least expect it, it can even be…more!  As I am quickly approaching 50 years old – a time of inevitable reflection forced by culture, chronological age, and the silly notion that we (God willing) are at this fictional halfway mark – I am looking back on life and realizing some very important things. Topping the list is the fact that, while I have not done “nothing” with my life (I am a mother of three wonderful children), I haven’t done much to contribute to the world outside my own four walls.  Why is that important now?  Because now…I am finally listening. We all have a little voice inside us giving us hints and clues as to who we are and what we are meant to do. I have ignored that voice for most my life. Today marks the day that I take action toward that little voice.

This blog is a deep dive journey of discovery and movement toward making my mark on the world – whatever that ends up being. I do not have to have all the answers. In fact, I can’t. Not when my journey has only just begun. I do, however, have all the right questions. Rather than attempt to achieve all my goals at once (something I am notorious for doing – and quitting), I instead choose one goal at a time. I have helped many people achieve their goals offering sound advice such as this. Now, it’s my turn to take my life by the reins and practice what I preach!  I have spent years doing research, reading books, watching/listening to podcasts and interviews – collecting as much data and wisdom as I possibly can. I got to a point where I was taking in the same information day after day.  It was then I realized, maybe I know enough!  So I decided….it’s time.

I encourage you to take a listen to what the little voice has been whispering to you all these years. I also encourage you to go down a path – any path – as finding out what does not work is equally as important as finding out what does. I know what my “yep” goals feel like. I know what they are. I can see it. Now, I just have to take some action steps to get there. I hope you all join me!  Let’s do this!

Hello world!

If you are looking for a real journey with a real person with real troubles staying on task, oh…you found her!  One thing I have learned about myself is that I am WAY better at staying on task – no matter what the task is – when I have accountability and am able to share my experiences.  Hence, this blog. I love writing!  But I also love food, snacks, beer, wine, NOT exercising, humor and connecting with people!  My intent in this blog is to set personal goals and ACTUALLY keep them.  I would love to take this journey…with you!

Hi!  Allow me introduce myself… My name is Shannon. I am (insert hesitation here) very close to turning 48 years old. Ah yes, middle aged. Gulp! I am currently married and we have three wonderful children. What?  Oh did I say “currently?”  Well that is because I have entered into the fantastic world of menopause. I’m not ruling out the possibility of imminent and absolute disaster.  😂 I am a “stay at home” which means my to do list and stress intake is much lower during the school year and much higher during the summer!  It wasn’t always low key – ever.  When the kids were younger, I didn’t have one minute to so much as pee without seeing little fingers under the door BEGGING for me to “come back” as if I had left the country!  Whether you are an “at home” mom or dad, or a “working” one, parenting is no joke! Getting on track and then staying there for more than a day and a half is also no joke!

In this blog, I will suggest many different strategies, plans and ideas to finding THE BEST POSSIBLE YOU!  Why?  Because it is my belief that if each of us were placed on this earth, it was for a reason. A purpose. And I, like many of you, am on my journey to find mine!  This is my very first blog. I haven’t the foggiest idea what I am doing yet but HAVE recently (should’ve been years ago) learned that you can’t get anywhere without at least taking that first step!  All my life, I have written. All my writing projects have been only for me. It was my therapy. My drug. My passion. It was cost effective. And it worked!  But I have also (all my life) felt there was this enormous thing just waiting for me!  What if I’m not alone in my journey?  What if I could share what I know and learn with others and that becomes the very vehicle that sets me off on this grand journey of life?  What if this moment, right now, is the exact thing I need to catapult me into becoming the very best version of myself? And…what if I could help readers, in some way, to also catapult themselves into THEIR best versions of themselves?  Even BIGGER….what if we all showed up in life as our best selves?  Can you imagine what that world could look like?  I can!  All I have to do now…is….BEGIN!
